Here are the National Park rules for First Amendment demonstrations on the Arch grounds. Please read and comply on Saturday. These rules apply to all groups who use the grounds in order to express views under the First Amendment. They are not special rules for the Tea Party only. Please pay particular attention to items 1. and 5.

Item 1 pretty much limits us to megaphones as a means of voice amplification. We wish we could use a sound system, but we can’t. Having the speakers on the sidewalk at the BOTTOM of the steps, though, should help trap the sound.

Item 5 says no sticks or poles for signs or banners.

1. Any loud speaker being used must be so adjusted as to accommodate only those people in the immediate area. All audio enhancement equipment should be portable and battery-powered as there is no power available on park grounds. NO GENERATORS ARE ALLOWED ON PARK GROUNDS.
2. The selling of merchandise or commercial advertising is prohibited.
3. No temporary structures shall be erected. Nothing may be attached to park property (fences, trees, trash receptacles, etc.)
4. If any printed matter is distributed as part of your activity, the printed matter must be directly related to your event and must not contain any commercial advertising. Printed matter will be limited to message-bearing textual printed material such as books, pamphlets, magazines, and leaflets whose primary purpose is the advocacy, definition or explanation of a group’s or individual’s political, religious, scientific or moral beliefs.
5. Signs and banners must not be attached to sticks or poles. This provision is not intended to restrict the use of portable signs or banners as an expression of First Amendment rights. Banners or signs which are hand-carried are allowed; however, they may not be obscene or indecent in nature, and must not pose a danger to anyone else in the area.
6. Participants are to avoid language which infers an official connection with the National Park Service and its activities.
7. The area will be left in the same condition as found and all litter placed in the provided containers. Any park property damaged by, or as a result of the permit holder, will be replaced or repaired at the cost of the permit holder.
8. The permit is only for use of the specific area and time period designated on the permit. Issuance of the permit does not guarantee exclusive use of an area. The area for which the permit is issued will remain open to the public during the park’s visiting hours. Permit activities must not interfere with park visitors or programs.
9. The use of any device or prop that utilizes smoke or open flame is prohibited.
10. The National Park Service reserves the right to immediately revoke the permit at any time should this become necessary in the interest of public safety, public health, and general welfare.
11. The United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service, will in no way be held responsible in the event of any personal injury, and/or loss of, or damage to, personal property during, or occurring from, the use of the area.
12. The permittee and all participants are required to comply with all applicable Federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, regulations, codes, permit requirements and conditions, as well as park regulations contained in Title 36 of the Code of Federal Regulations. The permit may be terminated upon breach of any of the conditions or at the discretion of the Superintendent. The permittee and all participants will comply with any instructions from the designated official representative of this office and similar instructions of the St. Louis City Police Department.
13. Good order and proper decorum shall be maintained by those persons conducting and participating in the activity and the group will leave the area at the conclusion time stated on the permit. It is prohibited for persons engaged in activities covered under the permit to obstruct or impede pedestrians or vehicles, or harass park visitors or misrepresent their purpose. Permittee must agree to maintain public access in the area (do not block entire sidewalks/steps/door entrances, etc, with people or equipment).
14. The provisions of 36 CFR Chapter 1 Section 2.51 is the authority used for administering permits for Public Assemblies. A copy of this regulation is available upon request.
15. Failure to comply with the provisions of the permit will result in its immediate revocation. Specific individuals failing to comply with the provisions herein will be prohibited from future participation in their activities at Jefferson National Expansion Memorial.

Hope to see you there on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

If, however, the Tea Party of Nevada is not a Democrat front group, I hope its members will put an end to the speculation of running a 3rd party candidate of U.S. Senate in November. The idea of a 3rd party on the right is idiotic and dangerous, arising from hubris and ego, not necessity.

On February 27, we will gather on the steps of the Gateway Arch to demonstrate our commitment to taking back the U.S. Congress in 2010.

One year ago, 38,000 patriots gathered in 40 cities on February 27 to protest continued bailouts and the proposed stimulus. We vowed to build a movement that Washington could not ignore.

In July, the Senate tabled Cap and Trade

In August, Congress recessed without taking over healthcare

In October, Congress began a re-write of healthcare takeover legislation

In November, the Tea Party movement drove a tax and spend liberal Republican from a U.S. Congressional race in NY-23

In January, Massachusetts voters elected Republican Scott Brown to replace Ted Kennedy

Whatever magic was unleashed on February 27, 2009, seems to grow stronger with each passing day.

So join us on the steps of the arch at 1:30. Let’s caffeinate the catfish one more time.

Bring signs, but signs cannot have sticks or poles attached.

Please copy this image and use to print your own business cards to hand out

And check stlouisteaparty.com every day for updates.

Immediately before the 1st Anniversary Tea Party Protest on the steps of the Arch is a 2nd Amendment rally from 10:00 to 12:00. Come to celebrate the right to bear arms and stay to celebrate the right to peaceably assemble, to petition Congress for a redress of grievances, and to retire those who don’t understand why our ancestors left Europe.

I hate to be too hard the people who say our efforts for Adam Andrzejewski were misdirected or futile. There were not. The people who scoff at what we accomplished are simply too lazy to think.

Adam Andrzejewski received 40 percent of the vote in Madison County. Madison is home to River Bend 9-12 and the Alton Tea Party. It’s directly across the river from St. Louis and St. Charles Counties. Many folks from Madison and St. Clair are on the St. Louis Tea Party email list. Many more follow our tweets and facebook walls.

These grassroots conservatives poured on the heat in the last 8 days to give Andrzejewski his decisive win in Madison. Conservatives did well all around the Metro East, as we call the part of Illinois adjacent to St. Louis and St. Louis County.

So let’s not catch anyone hanging their heads. Backed a good man in a state where corruption is king. Chicago media refused to even mention that Lech Walesa, former President of Poland and Nobel laureate, was in their town. Fox 2 News (KTVI) in St. Louis failed to mention Andrzejewski in its election day profiles of the other GOP candidates for governor. (BTW, it’s almost time picket KTVI’s sponsors.) And GOP party insiders or wannabe insiders hired a phony to pretend to be the tea party candidate in order to damage Andrzejewski. Those are some might tall obstacles to overcome.

In the end, Adam got an 11 point surge in the final 8 days of the campaign. With 16 days, he might well have won. With 2 weeks, it might have been a landslide. Our eye is on the prize: come November, we’re cleaning house in Washington. Don’t let anything curb your enthusiasm.

We rallies and protested in 2009. We take back our country in 2010. But we can’t do that if we don’t vote. Flood the polling booths. Bring your neighbors. Light up the tote boards. Let’s celebrate another Tea Party Championship tonight in Illinois!!!!!!

Want to read great reflective writing? Jim Durbin, on 24thstate.com, reviews the year of the Tea Party. This is the best reflection on our nascent movement I’ve read. I can’t imagine how anyone could top it. One of my favorite passages:

On each day, you stood up and boldy proclaimed that you were free citizens, not cowed subjects. You reminded the Beltway crowd that elections are just part of a representative democracy, and in this country, men and women are free to assemble and petition the government for a redress of their grievances.

In a few hours, the networks will begin making projections. We hope those projections will conclude that Scott Brown has won the U.S. Senate seat from Massachusetts. No matter who prevails, though, we have learned that America’s conservative grassroots are wide the hell awake with caffeine coursing through our veins.

Our wakefulness should frighten and humble the President and the Congressional leadership. Your never-say-day battles from February to today have almost stopped a socialist, statist juggernaut. Just last year, most of us thought our freedoms gone for good.

When our children write the history of this era in American political life, they will look back on several key moments: The collapse of Lehman Brothers, Obama’s inauguration, the takeover of GM, the passage of the stimulus, the Tax Day Tea Parties, the Town Hall tactic, and the 9/12 Rallies. In between these front-page events were moments and events of surpassing importance: Rick Santelli’s rant, the February 27 Tea Parties, the beating of Ken Gladney, and the Massachusetts vote.

These latter events might not make it to the history books, but they should. These were the moments that we came together and learned to walk. These were the events that made us stronger. These were the days we learned the lion of self-government could still roar.

For one of the “early adopters” of the Tea Party movement, it’s easy to over-credit the movement’s impact on the U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts. But it’s also possible to underestimate that influence. The fact is, though, that the Nationwide Tea Party coalition—a very loose confederation of a couple-dozen local tea party organizations—made a concerted effort to help Scott Brown in Massachusetts. More importantly, unlike Doug Hoffman in NY-23, Scott Brown made a concerted effort to leverage the power of the Tea Party.

Despite the yeoman efforts of Tea Partiers around the country, if Brown pulls off a political miracle and wins on Tuesday, he deserves most of the credit. Brad Marston, a Boston Tea Party leader, deserves the lion’s share of the credit for energizing the Tea Party movement about this race. Together, the combination of a talented, worthy, and humble candidate plus a vibrant Tea Party means that Ted Kennedy’s former Senate seat is in play—a situation thought ridiculous only a month ago.

On December 28, 2009, I posted the St. Louis Tea Party’s first call to arms for Scott Brown. Within 24 hours, I received an email from his Regional Campaign Chair thanking me for the column. He also shared the process for getting on their caller list to make calls from hope, which we promptly shared via email with out entire St. Louis Tea Party mailing list.

The Brown Campaign had numerous meetings with Tea Party organizations in Massachusetts. While some of Scott’s positions differ from some Tea Partiers’ positions on specific issues, Brown made it clear that he will work to shrink the federal government. That is the central rallying crying of the Tea Party movement, and the Bay State Tea Partiers responded.

When the movement began with rallies in about 40 cities on February 27, 2009, we said the movement was a 10-round, heavyweight fight that would end with a knockout of the current Congressional leadership. We’ve had our problems along the way, but the Tea Party’s influence in NY-23 shocked the GOP. Our influence, so far, in Massachusetts has undoubtedly panicked the White House and the DNC. All the right people are hating us.

Writing on BigGovernment, former Clinton aide, Dick Morris, describes the significance of the Scott Brown race, should he pull off a victory on January 19:

But even more corrosive for Obama and the Democrats is the knowledge that nobody is safe from Republican assault. If the GOP can win a Senate seat in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts, it can win anywhere, anytime, against anyone. Long term Democratic incumbents from largely Republican districts would have to rethink their loyalty to Reid and Pelosi. Particularly in the House, it will be ever more difficult to round up majorities for Administration bills. Politicians will start running for cover and hiding in the cloakrooms.

As we move toward the 2010 elections, conservative candidates and Tea Partiers need to keep this winning combination in mind.

Candidates: Be humble. Don’t assume you and your K Street consultants have all the answers. Trust, instead, the people, and the Tea Party is simply the people organized. The Tea Party movement can put money and people where you need them and when. Don’t wait too long to get us involved. Don’t say what you think we want to hear—tell us the truth. And don’t ask us for an endorsement, but, instead, give us yours. Tell us it’s okay to disagree with you on some issues, but that you will work every minute of your political life to get Washington out of our lives as much as Constitutionally possible.

Tea Party: In 2009, most of the local tea party organizations tried not to ask you for money. That changes in 2010 because, like it or not, money = votes. If you want conservative candidates to win, you’ll need to put your money where you’ve already selflessly put your feet. We want to win this damn thing. We want to toss out big government liberals who thought they were safe. Well, that takes people and money, and lots of each. If you have anything to spare, please start saving it. Some very worthy candidates, PACs, and organizations are going to need it to fulfill the Tea Party’s mission of making 2011’s Congress the largest freshman class in history!

Finally, even Dick Morris ends his story with a plea for help.

For all of these reasons, please make an effort today to telephone or e-mail any friends, family or colleagues you know in Massachusetts to urge them to come out and vote for Scott Brown. There is so very much at stake!

And that’s from a cynical Washington insider who worked for Bill Clinton! Continue doing the GOTV work you’ve been doing. Keep up the phone calls on Monday. It’s a holiday, so you’ll catch many people at home. Call your friends and family in Massachusetts and let them know that they can vote for all of us who want to keep your freedom. Please don’t stop until the shouting at OB Clark’s on Tuesday night.

It’s easy to list all the things that are wrong in the world. In the past year, it’s even been possible to get a million people protesting in the streets over them. In the God-forsaken year of 2009, shouting was enough. Our duty was to simply stop the descent into socialist tyranny until rational minds returned to Washington. The absence of a major, general election in 2009 afforded us that luxury. We didn’t have to take too many affirmative stands. With the flipping of the calendar, though, that time of luxury expired.

We’re on the clock.

The clock is ticking.

It’s show time.

One Problem We CAN Solve

In 2009, the Tea Party movement in St. Louis and many other cities did a great job of focusing on fiscal responsibility through strict application of the enumerated powers in the Constitution. In 2010, we must focus even more precisely on this graph:

The blue represents tyranny; the red, liberty. Look at the 3 and draw line with your eye straight up.

Until the red spreads over to the left of the imaginary line you drew, American government will grow increasingly tyrannical. While this graph remains more than 50 percent blue, you become less free every day. Your children’s ability to rise above the class into which they were born decreases. Is that the legacy you want to leave them?

Unless we take back Congress in 2010, our children will never know the freedoms we’ve enjoyed.

I know I don’t want that on my conscience. And I’m sure you don’t want it on yours.

What Can You Do?

For starters, ask yourself this: Can America survive another 2 years of single-party rule? Bear in mind that the single party currently in power wants to socialize and nationalize very major industry, to tax the wealthy into poverty, to redistribute even middle class wealth, and to permanently imprison you and your children in a web of petty and uniform rules. It has given international police authority to arrest American citizens in violation of the Constitution. It has given Muslim terrorists the same rights as a American citizens and is bringing them to New York City to stand trial in civilian courts. It has hired admitted and proud Marxists and Maoists to craft policy and to develop propaganda. It has scoffed at the rule of law. It has made a mockery of self-government.

Next, ask yourself if you’ve done all that you can to save America. I know there’s more that I could have done in 2009. I know that I stopped and let my frustrations derail me. I also know that if I screw up the 2010 elections, I will take it to my grave.

Third, please ask your friends and family to examine their own consciences. “Are you doing all you can to secure the blessing of liberty for yourself and your children?” I encourage you to send out a link to this post. Ask your friends to comment on it and to register on stlouisteaparty.com for regular updates. We need to get this movement growing faster than ever.

Finally, please pick one or two candidates to support with time and money—all the money you can afford. This is no time for a purist Witch Trial of imperfect candidates. As much as I’d like to impose purity standards on the men and women I support, 2010 is not the year—not when true tyranny threatens to end the American experiment and replace it with a Marxist hell. Instead of purity, use William F. Buckley’s formula for choosing a candidate: “Always support the rightward-most, viable candidate.” In Massachusetts’ Special Election for Ted Kennedy’s seat, that candidate is unquestionably Scott Brown. If you’ve supported 3rd parties in the past, I’d ask you to ask yourself this: will ideological purity matter when Washington prohibits even peaceable assembly and the most thoughtful dissenting speech? If you don’t want to live in tyranny, please do not run unviable candidates for any national office where there’s a chance to turn a blue chair red. While we don’t need an echo, we don’t need an endless buffet, either. At least not this year. At least not when our last vestiges of freedom are on the block.

Please Help, America

We have only 304 days 9 hours 30 minutes until the November 2 elections. Early voting starts as many as 45 days before that. We must move the blue on the map of Congress to the left of center. And all that work is up to you and me. No one else. You and me.

If America becomes a tyranny, we have no one blame but ourselves.

If we push back socialism, we get to share all the credit and the burden of self-governance.

November 2, 2010, will be either a national celebration of freedom or a national day of mourning. Which is up to us.

Cordially,

On Thursday, Tiny Tim Geithner and the Obama White House gave their friends at Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae unfettered access to your tax dollars. In effect, the Democrat appointees at these government corporations that caused the economic meltdown have the password to your online banking account.

Geithner’s justification, according to Wall Street Journal:

Unlimited access to bailout funds through 2012 was "necessary for preserving the continued strength and stability of the mortgage market," the Treasury said. Fannie and Freddie purchase or guarantee most U.S. home mortgages and have run up huge losses stemming from the worst wave of defaults since the 1930s.

Isn’t that just dandy?

Treasury officials, of course, have refused to discuss the matter—part of Obama’s new transparency rules. This open-ended, unlimited bailout of Obama’s biggest contributors is an admission that America’s financial system is not on the road recovery but on the way to a second crash. The FDIC is bankrupt, meaning your checking and savings accounts are less secure than cash. As a taxpayer, you are on the hook for whatever Freddie and Fannie (and Barney Frank) want to spend. You are the victim of the largest identity theft in world history.

For those who wonder why so many silent Americans have rushed into the streets to form the Tea Party movement, this is all they need to know. The US government has lost its moral authority to govern. For example, the announcement of unlimited tax dollars for Freddie and Fannie coincided with pay raises for the executives at the failed agencies:

The companies on Thursday disclosed new packages that will pay Fannie Chief Executive Officer Michael Williams and Freddie CEO Charles Haldeman Jr. as much as $6 million a year, including bonuses. The packages were approved by the Treasury and the Federal Housing Finance Agency, or FHFA, which regulates the companies.

As many have observed, Obama does not reward competence, only obsequiousness. Williams and Haldeman must be very obsequious.

Next Move

Some folks are planning a National General Strike for January 20. At first I thought this was too much. Now I’m leaning toward joining. What would happen if 500 people stood in the entrance to Lambert from 7:00 to Noon on January 20? What if the same thing happened at 20 major airports? And what if millions of children stayed home from schools and millions of Americans called in sick? Maybe we need to get the attentions of America’s Fortune 500 CEOs.

I think it’s time to ratchet up our activism. What are you doing on January 20th?

John is a Vietnam veteran and retired business executive. He loves America and hates to see what’s happened in Washington the past few years. He believes in liberty and Constitutional limitations on government growth.

He called the Tea Party just to vent and to see if it’s just him.

Recently, John had called Senator Kit Bond’s (R-MO) office in Washington. He wanted to know whether stories that Bond had signed off a $659 million earmark for soy bean farmers were true.

According to John, the Bond staffer who answered the phone was terse, rude, and argumentative. She balked at being called a “lady,” though she couldn’t think of an acceptable alternative. She hung up on the constituent and veteran twice. She threatened to call the police if he called back.

John’s offense? He had the audacity to ask about the earmark and state his view that Bond and his staff are our employees.

I was not able to speak to anyone at Bond’s office to confirm, but John’s story wasn’t the first like it. Senator Bond, one of the biggest porkers in Congress, has a reputation for being rude to constituents . . . unless, of course, they come bearing campaign contributions. Now that he’s retiring from the Senate, even donors are in trouble.

Bond’s local office was more polite to John, but they still argued with him, claiming John’s assessment of Bond’s political career was unfair.

John contrasted for me his treatment with Senator Claire McCaskill’s (D-MO) office staff. McCaskill’s people were not only polite, they were polite while arguing policy with John. While John admits he can be short and direct, he felt that never went there with McCaskill’s polite, professional, and enthusiastic staff.

Now, I agree with Sen. Bond on most issues and I disagree with McCaskill on just about everything. (Same for Tea Partier John.) Where John and I have more in common with Claire than with Bond is on the point of customer service. Claire understands how to treat constituents on the phone; Bond simply does not.

Want to know why the Tea Party is viewed more favorably than the Republican Party? This story tells it all.

Wake up, GOP. You’re on the road to losing seats in 2010 rather than gaining them.

And don’t forget to check out my new ebook, Zen Conservatism! The price goes up $3 on Monday, December 14.
