You hear and read all the time that many people are not happy with the Republican Party, especially in this election year. People feel that the Party picks a candidate and everyone is supposed to fall in line. At the same time the Party does not like candidates that might be more popular or have views and principles that more closely reflect  people’s viewpoint. MOPP (Missouri Precinct Project) has been telling people for a year now to get involved in the process, pay attention to what is going on at your local level, talk to your friends and neighbors about the state of affairs, walk your neighborhoods and precincts and help people understand the issues.

Have you ever gone to your local Township meeting? Do you participate in the affairs of your Township? Guess what? Every Township elects a committeman and a committewomen and these people form the Central Committee for each County. And from there they are appointed to Congressional Committees, Senatorial Committees, Legislative Committees and pretty soon they get to participate in decisions at the State level of the Republican Party. The sad part about all this is that for the 28 Townships in St.Louis County usually only 50-60% of the Committee people show up at the monthly meeting.

So find out how active your Republican representative for your Township is and if you don’t like what you see, file for the position and run in the next election. Or if your committe person is not active, encourage them to resign and have yourself appointed. That is what I just did. Plus I had someone recommended to serve on the committe because that particular township comittemen/women position was open.

And that is how we can take back the Party, one Township and one County at a time. And instead of venting on Facebook you can actually participate in your government and change what you don’t like.Off course, this won’t happen overnight but we have to start taking back our country sometime.

    Thank you Frieda for
your article and congratulations on your new position! The Townships are an
overlooked opportunity to get involved. Many of the Townships have regular
meetings and very few people show up (some Townships are more active than
others). One of the problems Republicans have is a lack of candidates. If you
want to get involved just go to the Township meetings as often as possible. Run
    for an office, Missouri
cities need councilmen and women, mayors, school district board members and
fire district board members. Counties need council men and women, prosecutors
and executives. We need quality sate representatives, state Senators. In
addition we need precinct captains an poll watchers. There is more to do than
there will ever be people available!

    The St. Louis County
Republicans have a new blog, discussing events and opportunities. Be sure to
    sign-up: http://stlcgop.wordpress.com/.
The County Republicans hav ean informational
website that is being rebuild but has contact info: http://www.stlcountygop.org/. Remember,
writing letters and attending rallies is not enough, you must get involved.

You are right. I have found thatmost of the county township leadership positions are filled with establishment types. They are more concerned with who is next rather than who is best.
