Tea Party Can Do What Democrats Can’t: Destroy the GOP
In New York’s 23rd Congressional District, we see what will happen to the GOP if it continues to ignore the Tea Party movement: it will implode. How badly? If the GOP keeps fighting small government activists, by 2012, the party will cease to exist.
Arrogant and Stupid
In NY-23, the Republican National Committee (Michael Steele), the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), and even Newt Gingrich have “selected” eugenicist Dierdre K. Scozzafava to fill an empty Congressional seat in 60 percent Republican district. The party leaders chose this candidate in the GOP’s usual way: a bunch of pudgy idiots sat around a pizza parlor and decided what was best. The GOP leaders believe the people of the 23rd district are too stupid to pick the right Republican candidate, so the people who picked Bob Dole and John McCain did it for them.
Now, a true conservative, Doug Hoffman, has emerged as a challenger for that job. Doug’s won the backing of Michelle Malkin, Fred Thompson, and the Club for Growth. As a result, the liberal Democrat candidate who has no chance in a 2-person race is likely to win this seat.
Lesson
Right or wrong doesn’t matter at this point: the GOP leadership will either comply with the wishes of the Tea Party and 9-12ers, or it will cease to exist. I don’t want to hear any lame arguments that a bunch of liberal Republicans are better than a bunch of liberal Democrats. That argument is patently false and insults the intelligence and integrity of everyone who’s marched, sweated, and shivered at Tea Parties in 2009. I’m not saying the GOP has to do what we say; I’m saying it has to do what we say if it wants to exist.
Gingrich, Steele, et al, can continue to behave like elitist pigs and be roasted on a spit, or they can come over to our side. On their present course, they will destroy the Republican party and take America down with it.
To the Missouri and Illinois GOP
Listen up. I know that many in the GOP, including several sitting US Congressmen, want to know how the party can co-opt work with the Tea Party movement. I don’t have all the answers, but here’s a start:
- Urge your supporters to send money to Doug Hoffman in NY-23. Go ahead and piss off the party brass for once
- Publicly AND privately demand that Michael Steele resign before Halloween.
- Public AND privately endorse Doug Hoffman and declare you’d rather lose defending your principles than win by kissing up to statists
- Stop pointing out all the problems with the Democrats—we’ll take care of that. Instead, point out the problems with your own party and offer fast solutions
- Stop trying to BUY voters. Passion is a lot cheaper than bribery
- Stop calling yourself a Republican. You’re an American who believes in the rule of law. And if you’re not that, then just resign and get a real job—if you can find one
- I strongly urge others to add their own ideas to this list in the comments. I strongly urge Republican leaders to resist the urge to argue with us. Your entire party is in jeopardy right now, and picking a fight with a nobody like Bill Hennessy can only hasten its demise.
- To Tea Partiers

There are dozens of articulate conservatives that have spoken at these town hall meetings. Why hasn’t someone tapped each of these individuals to run in the local Congressional races in 2010?
I know, I know, there are all the party hacks that have paid their dues and run in local elections and served for years who are waiting their turn. But, the country is at stake. Why not tap the emerging talent pool for those people who have conservative fiscal convictions and a karismatic way of communicating?????? This is the way winners are selected and supported. Nothing less than our freedom is at stake!!!!!!
The RNC sent out an email yesterday wanting to take a poll of my values and priorities, and soliciting support. Their questions were so far off base, I didn’t bother. Somebody! Wake those clowns up — they are missing the point: it’s the spending and the economy, stupid!
Great blog Bill. Forget party affiliation – it no longer matters. Those that still ‘blindly’ follow the Republican Party (as I use to) are guilty of the same crimes against freedom as we blame the mindless-zealot followers of the Democratic Party. It makes my stomach turn to hear hypnotized Republicans so happy that they think the Tea Party/9-12′ers will just fall in line behind them. They may or may not get my support. Don’t look for a “D”, “L”, “I” or “R” behind the name. Look at what they believe in and stand for.
Shame on you Newt G. and party hacks. Your lack of courage and leadership is why we are in the current situation.

Newt was on Greta and in his last comment to her, Newt states “you strengthen yourself by attracting more people than by driving them away” implying that you must compromise your conservative principles in order to expand the party. I disagree. You stand on conservative principles and let the people come to you. He is supporting Dede Scozzafava in New York. Arlen Spectre has already left the Republican Party. The Republicans do not need another Olympia Snowe or Susan Collins. I believe Newt is positioning himself to run for President as a middle of the roader. He stated the Era of Reagan Conservatism is over. I remember when Gary Gill was leading Dick Gephardt in the polls until Newt praised Gephardt. He did a Climate Change commercial with Pelosi, and teamed up with Sharpton on education. Is Newt a real conservative Republican?
