Ed Martin to run against Russ Carnahan
On September 30, Macarthur’s Bakery hosted a rally for Ed Martin where he announced his intention to enter the race for the 3rd Congressional District, which is currently “represented” by Russ Carnahan. My wife and I attended along with several hundred other cheering district residents who are apparently fed up with Carnahan’s arrogant disdain for their concerns.
David Macarthur explained why he and his brother Randy want to see Carnahan unseated:
He also read a touching letter from his son, a Marine who is about to deploy into a combat zone. As parents of a combat Marine who has seen lots of action and is scheduled to see even more, we recalled hearing similar thoughts from our son. Macarthur’s shared this personal letter to make the point that while our young military people are shedding blood for America ideals, members of Congress such as Carnahan are undermining those ideals with ill-conceived legislation like cap-and-trade.
I was able to record a few minutes of Ed’s speech before my battery died:
We noticed just one protestor in the crowd, a burly guy carrying this poster:
Notice that the poster was sponsored by the Missouri State Democratic Committee and that it plows over old ground, digging up an issue that was settled with no judgment against Ed Martin. Of course, the facts have never mattered to Democrats, and so Ed should be prepared to deal with this accusation repeatedly during his campaign.
Finally, on a side street running behind the Macarthur’s parking lot, a small group of teens tried to disrupt the speakers by shouting pro-Obama cheers – stupid things like “Obama Rules!” Apparently nobody told them that Obama isn’t running for the 3rd District seat. Anyway, they only shouted for a few minutes before drifting away, probably due to their short attention spans.
