One Thousand BUYcotters Support Whole Foods CEO
Gina Loudon’s "BUYcott” of Whole Foods could be a game changer. More than 1,000 shoppers converged on the Whole Foods Market on Clayton in Town and Country one Tuesday night, kicking off a nationwide BUYcott to save John Mackey’s job.
The stories were amazing. Employees of Whole Foods since the store opened said they’d never seen anything like this, with the possible exception of the grand opening. The manager of a Great Clips salon in the same complex stood outside with a sign that read “Need a Haircut?.” She told a KMOV-4 reporter, “I’ve never seen this many people shop there before.”
The video below is a quick interview with the last arrivers. They are in St. Louis on business and saw the Post-Dispatch’s Front Page (above fold) story on today’s event. These folks have met John Mackey. When they saw we were holding a buycott to support him, they took a $30 cab ride to participate.
Several people told me that this was the most enjoyable protest they’ve every taken part in. Of course, like most Tea Partiers, they never protested before February 27, 2009.
We may never know the total receipts from tonight. A sample sample of the 600 or so receipts we collected showed an average sale of about $50. While this sample might not be representative, it’s the best I have right now. And it adds up to $50,000 lift in sales on a Tuesday night.
Here’s Dana on Greta tonight:
Congratulations, Gina. You’ve launched a tactic the White House cannot counter—legally.

My wife and I arrived around 6:15pm and were amazed at how many people had already gathered. Although the store was crowded, the buycotters were in a jovial mood, and the Whole Foods staff were friendly, pleasant, and efficient.
Dana estimated that buycotters were a 50-50 split between experienced Whole Foods shoppers and neophytes like us, but I would guess that an even higher percentage, perhaps 2/3, were newbies. This is based on comments I received and overheard while strolling through the store.
We were surprised that the prices were not outrageously high as we had previously heard. Sure, there were lots of expensive “organic” items, but we found their wine, meat, cheese, and deli items to be reasonable and competitive with Schnuck’s and Dierberg’s. Overall I would put Whole Foods in the same price category as Trader Joe’s. So, we left with two bags (mostly wine, meat, and deli) for about $65.
Kudos to Gina, Bill, Dana, and everyone else who worked so hard to organize this unique way to resist the mind-numbed ObamaCare supporters and to support free-market entrepeneurs like John Mackey.
Hi!
I live in Roseville, Ca outside of Sacramento. I discovered your site a month ago, and get the daily updates. Y’all are doing our nation proud.
We had about 10,000 at the Capitol downtown over the weekend…
I wanted to share we had about 2,000 people last night at our Congressman Tom McClintock’s town hall at Granite Bay High School. We had about sixty bussed in move on.org. folks. Their leader brought a petition and through it on the floor in front of the assembly, I guess that was her way of insulting McClintock, but she just looked petty and mean.
The rest of us wanted McClintock to know how much we are behind him and there were some great comments from the audience. There are a few videos posted, but they give a slim idea of how much fun we had.
Keep the patriotic fervor fired up!
