A Tea Party Leader Considers Washington

Ed Martin Jr., who has spoken at every St. Louis Tea Party rally since we met on the steps of the Arch, has announced an exploratory committee (http://edmartinforcongress.com/) to help him decide whether to run for Russ Carnahan’s vacant 3rd Congressional District seat. (Yeah, I know Russ is running again, but any seat with Russ Carnahan in it is vacant.)

Since the first week of the St. Louis Tea Party movement back in February, Ed Martin Jr. has served as one of the organization’s officers. Ed is a passionate, intelligent, and inspiring speaker who delighted the crowds at Tea Parties in February, April, and July. Because of our non-partisan pledge, we must remove Ed’s name from our list of officers. We will welcome him back if he decides to leave to public life.

We wish Ed the best. We are very proud that a founding member of the Tea Party movement has decided to step up and fix the problems in Washington.

As more Tea Party members step forward to lead our nation beyond the socialist nightmare that inspired the movement, we will help them stay on the good side. We do not intend to endorse candidates, but we do request candidates endorse the Tea Party by signing an oath to our principles. We will display a list of candidates who have taken that oath on stlouisteaparty.com for all to see. And we will hold them to that promise.

Please thank Ed for his significant role in launching the Tea Party movement in St. Louis.  He has been a vital link in the chain holding our republic together.  We trust that he will continue to do so as a member of the next Congress.  Ed knows better than anyone that the Tea Party is watching.
